Samson Adamu Appointed Acting General Secretary of CAF
The FIFA Master Alumni (FMA) community is incredibly proud to announce that Samson Adamu, a graduate of the 9th Edition of the FIFA Master, has been appointed Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The appointment was ratified on March 29, 2026, during the CAF Executive Committee meeting held at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo. Samson steps into this pivotal leadership role following the resignation of Véron Mosengo-Omba, assuming responsibility for the "engine room" of African football during a significant period of transition for the continent.
A Historic Milestone for Nigeria
Samson’s elevation is a landmark achievement in international sports governance. He becomes the first Nigerian to hold the position of General Secretary in CAF’s nearly 70-year history. This milestone is a testament to his professional excellence and serves as a point of immense pride for both his home nation and the global FIFA Master network.
A Career Defined by Excellence
Prior to this appointment, Samson served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events. In this high-stakes role, he was the primary architect behind the delivery of Africa’s biggest sporting spectacles, including multiple successful editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
His reputation for meticulous organization, deep institutional knowledge, and a collaborative leadership style made him the natural choice for the Executive Committee. CAF President Patrice Motsepe has already highlighted Samson’s capabilities, encouraging him to apply for the permanent position as the formal recruitment process begins.
A Legacy of FMA Leadership at CAF
Samson Adamu’s appointment continues a distinguished tradition of FIFA Master alumni leading the CAF Secretariat. He is the third FMA member to serve as General Secretary, following in the footsteps of Hicham El Amrani (4th Edition, served 2011–2017) and the late Amr Fahmy (6th Edition, served 2017–2019).
To his colleagues and friends in the FMA, Samson has always embodied the values of the program: dedication, integrity, and a global vision for the game. His rise to the top of continental administration is an inspiration to alumni worldwide, proving once again that the FIFA Master remains the gold standard for developing the leaders of tomorrow.
The FMA Committee and the entire alumni family extend their warmest congratulations to Samson. We look forward to seeing his continued impact on the growth and professionalization of football across Africa.
